My Fear for the Future

I constantly wonder what the future holds. Not just for me but for humanity as a whole. It seems as though our society does not advance as rapidly as we used to. We do not hold up to the expectations that the past held. In 1990, it was thought that we would have flying cars and highly advanced technology. And although technology has advanced, we are not close to reaching flying cars. Maybe it is the advance in technology that actually slows us down. We now have more distractions and "better things to do'' than to sit around trying to create something that we know someone else could probably make better than us. Another factor is the self deprecation that lies among this generation. Everyone seems to feels as there will always be someone better, someone smarter, someone who is just not them. Everyone has potential to be something great, but not everyone has the potential to reach their something great. Not everyone is meant to be good at the same thing, nor should they be. For example, if everyone were the same, thought the same, acted the same, we would have something called "group think". This is the action of everyone agreeing upon the bare minimum thus never making any advancements. Based on today's society and the impact social media has on everyone, I fear that society may form into a great group think. Everyone wants to be what they see as "perfect" which most of the time is a celebrity or famous role model. Since this is the case, many people begin to form into similar people. I'm guessing you knowing what I'm getting at. You might not look like Gigi Hadid or Harry Styles, but that doesn't make you any less beautiful because beauty comes from within. So what I am getting at here is society is weakening because people are beginning to lose their feeling of purpose.
